Day 25: What have I learned about myself in the last year?
When I look back at the last year, it doesn’t feel like one big transformation. It feels like a series of small, almost invisible shifts, tiny recalibrations that slowly changed the way I move through the world. I didn’t wake up one morning as a new person. I became her gradually, through moments I didn’t even realize were shaping me.
I learned that I’m stronger than I thought, but softer than I ever allowed myself to be.
For so long, I believed strength meant holding everything together without cracking.
But this year taught me that strength is sometimes the opposite, letting myself break open, letting myself feel, letting myself be witnessed in the mess instead of hiding it.
I learned that my patterns make sense once I understand their origins.
The way I retreat when I’m overwhelmed.
The way I say “I’m fine” when I’m not.
The way I postpone things that matter to me.
The way I carry guilt that isn’t mine.
None of these habits came from nowhere.
They were survival strategies.
And once I saw them clearly, they stopped feeling like personal failures and started feeling like stories I could rewrite.
I learned that healing isn’t linear.
It loops.
It spirals.
It revisits old wounds at unexpected times.
There were days I felt like I was moving backward, but I wasn’t, I was deepening the work.
I was learning the same lesson at a different level.
I was becoming someone who doesn’t run from her own history.
I learned that I can change without losing myself. For a long time, I feared that growth meant abandoning the parts of me that felt familiar. But this year showed me that change can be an expansion, not a replacement. I didn’t lose myself, I found more of myself.
I learned that I deserve gentleness.
Not just from others, but from myself.
I learned that rest isn’t indulgent.
That slowing down isn’t failure.
That my body isn’t the enemy.
That my needs aren’t inconveniences.
That I don’t have to earn care.
I learned that I’m allowed to want more.
More peace.
More joy.
More connection.
More presence.
More alignment.
More of a life that feels like mine instead of one I’m simply managing.
I learned that I’m capable of building things, routines, boundaries, habits, healing, even if I build them slowly. Even if I rebuild them often. Even if they don’t look perfect.
I learned that I’m still becoming.
That becoming isn’t a destination.
It’s a practice.
A devotion.
A willingness to keep showing up for myself even when it’s hard, even when I’m tired, even when I’m scared.
This year didn’t make me flawless.
It made me honest.
It made me aware.
It made me softer.
It made me braver.
And maybe that’s enough… maybe that’s more than enough.
