Day 26: If I had one year left, what would I stop doing immediately?

If I had one year left, I think everything unnecessary would fall away in an instant. Not because I’d suddenly become fearless, but because the illusion of endless time would finally dissolve. I wouldn’t have the luxury of postponement anymore. I wouldn’t be able to hide behind “tomorrow.” I wouldn’t be able to keep living like my life is something I’ll get around to later.

I would stop apologizing for who I am, the softness, the intensity, the sensitivity, the depth. I’ve spent so much of my life trying to be easier, quieter, less complicated. If I had one year left, I wouldn’t waste a single day shrinking myself to fit someone else’s comfort.

I would stop waiting to feel ready.

Ready to change.

Ready to heal.

Ready to take care of my body.

Ready to start the things I keep postponing.

Ready to become the version of myself I imagine.

If I had one year left, I wouldn’t wait for readiness. I would begin, imperfectly, awkwardly, honestly. I would stop treating my life like something I can delay until I feel more confident.

I would stop numbing myself with distractions.

The scrolling.

The noise.

The busywork.

The habits that keep me comfortable but disconnected.

The rituals that soothe me in the moment but steal my time in the long run.

If I had one year left, I would want to feel everything, even the hard things. I would want to be awake inside my own life.

I would stop pretending I’m fine when I’m not. Stop carrying emotions alone. Stop swallowing my needs. Stop acting like vulnerability is a burden.

If I had one year left, I would tell the truth, gently, bravely, consistently.

I would stop arguing about things that don’t matter. Stop giving energy to people who drain me. Stop trying to fix what isn’t mine. Stop replaying old wounds like they’re warnings instead of memories.

If I had one year left, I would protect my peace like it’s sacred.

I would stop living like my body is an afterthought. Stop treating my health like a chore. Stop postponing the changes I know I need. Stop saying “tomorrow” when I mean “I’m scared.”

If I had one year left, I would choose myself today, not someday.

I would stop living small. Stop living tired. Stop living distracted. Stop living half-present.

Because with one year left, clarity becomes simple, I would want to feel alive. I would want to feel connected. I would want to feel proud of how I spent my time. I would want to feel like I didn’t abandon myself.

And maybe that’s the point of this question, not to imagine the end, but to illuminate what matters now.

What deserves urgency now.

What deserves devotion now.

What deserves my attention now.

If I had one year left, I would stop doing everything that pulls me away from myself.

Which means I should probably stop doing those things now.
